A biocide is a chemical treatment that is formulated to effectively control microbial growth. Problems caused by un-controlled microbial growth can range from health hazards, the breakdown of chemicals, the development of biofilms , heat transfer losses, restriction of flow and under deposit corrosion. Oxidising biocides attack microorganisms by oxidising (an electron transfer reaction) the cell structure, disrupting nutrients from passing across the cell wall. An oxidizing agent like chlorine pulls electrons in; meanwhile, the bacteria it is attacking loses electrons.

This loss of electrons further causes the organism to die or at least prevent it from continuing its growth cycle. Oxidizing biocides can also be fed continuously or intermittently. Continuous feeding of an oxidizing biocide is often recommended for a system that has little to no existing microbiological contamination. If a continuous dose is fed also managed correctly, it will require the least amount of maintenance also to be the safest form of treatment.

A biocide is a chemical treatment that is formulated to effectively control microbial growth. Problems caused by un-controlled microbial growth can range from health hazards, the breakdown of chemicals, the development of biofilms , heat transfer losses, restriction of flow and under deposit corrosion. Oxidising biocides attack microorganisms by oxidising (an electron transfer reaction) the cell structure, disrupting nutrients from passing across the cell wall. An oxidizing agent like chlorine pulls electrons in; meanwhile, the bacteria it is attacking loses electrons.

This loss of electrons further causes the organism to die or at least prevent it from continuing its growth cycle. Oxidizing biocides can also be fed continuously or intermittently. Continuous feeding of an oxidizing biocide is often recommended for a system that has little to no existing microbiological contamination. If a continuous dose is fed also managed correctly, it will require the least amount of maintenance also to be the safest form of treatment.
