A vacuum drainage system, also known as a vacuum sewage system or vacuum sanitary system, is an alternative method of handling wastewater and sewage in buildings, ships, airplanes, and other facilities. It operates on the principle of creating a vacuum within a pipe network to move wastewater from individual fixtures to a collection point. Components include vacuum pumps, vacuum interface units at fixtures, a vacuum piping network, collection tanks, and a control system.

When a fixture (e.g., toilet) is used, a vacuum interface unit opens, and a vacuum is created in the connected piping network. The vacuum pressure moves the wastewater from the fixture to the local collection tank. Periodically, or as needed, the vacuum pumps at the vacuum station create suction, transporting the wastewater from the collection tanks to the central collection point or sewage treatment facility.

Advantages of a vacuum drainage system:
Easier and more flexible installation, especially in existing buildings or locations with challenging topography. Can use smaller-diameter pipes, reducing the amount of water needed for flushing fixtures. Generally requires less energy compared to traditional gravity-based sewage systems. Lower infrastructure costs due to smaller pipe sizes and less excavation needed. Vacuum drainage systems offer a modern, efficient, and environmentally friendly alternative to traditional gravity-based sewage systems, particularly in areas where gravity-based systems are not practical or cost-effective.

A vacuum drainage system, also known as a vacuum sewage system or vacuum sanitary system, is an alternative method of handling wastewater and sewage in buildings, ships, airplanes, and other facilities. It operates on the principle of creating a vacuum within a pipe network to move wastewater from individual fixtures to a collection point. Components include vacuum pumps, vacuum interface units at fixtures, a vacuum piping network, collection tanks, and a control system.

When a fixture (e.g., toilet) is used, a vacuum interface unit opens, and a vacuum is created in the connected piping network. The vacuum pressure moves the wastewater from the fixture to the local collection tank. Periodically, or as needed, the vacuum pumps at the vacuum station create suction, transporting the wastewater from the collection tanks to the central collection point or sewage treatment facility.

Advantages of a vacuum drainage system:
Easier and more flexible installation, especially in existing buildings or locations with challenging topography. Can use smaller-diameter pipes, reducing the amount of water needed for flushing fixtures. Generally requires less energy compared to traditional gravity-based sewage systems.
