Imaging flow cytometry (IFC), or Multi-spectral imaging flow cytometry (MIFC) is a new technology that incorporates aspects of both microscopy and flow cytometry that performs multi-color spectral fluorescence and bright field imaging simultaneously through a laminar core. This capability provides an accurate analysis of fluorescent signal intensities and spatial relationships between different structures and cellular features at high speed.
The 12-channel flow cytometric imager is an advanced laboratory instrument, a high-throughput flow cytometric imaging system for simultaneous analysis of multiple cell parameters. It combines the advantages of traditional flow cytometry and cell imaging technologies, enabling fast and accurate multi-channel image acquisition and cell phenotype analysis of single cells. The device has 12 channels, meaning it can detect and record 12 different fluorescent markers or cellular parameters simultaneously. These channels can include a variety of different fluorescent dyes, cell markers, or indicators of cell structure for the study of cell surface markers, intracellular protein expression, cellular subcellular structure, and cellular function, among others. The working principle of the 12-channel flow cytometer is similar to that of a traditional flow cytometer, where a single pass through the cell flow is illuminated by a laser, and the scattered light and fluorescence signals of the cells are recorded. Unlike traditional flow cytometers, imaging flow cytometers simultaneously acquire image information of cells in multiple channels, so that more comprehensive and detailed cell characteristics can be obtained.
Imaging Flow Cytometry is the future development trend. With the development of delayed photography technology and high-throughput detection comparable to traditional flow, imaging flow cytometry will be able to completely replace all the functions of traditional flow, and more importantly, it can provide cell morphology and spatial information. This greatly makes up for the information loss of traditional flow.
