Iron ore processing refers to the series of industrial processes used to extract and refine iron from its ore to produce raw iron, typically in the form of iron concentrate, pellets, or sintered materials. These are the initial steps in producing steel and other iron-based products.

The process involves several stages:
1. Mining
- Extraction: Iron ore is mined from deposits found in the Earth's crust.
- Transport: The extracted ore is transported to processing facilities.

2. Crushing and Grinding
- Crushing: Large pieces of ore are broken into smaller fragments to facilitate processing.
- Grinding: The crushed ore is ground to fine particles to separate the iron from other minerals.

3. Concentration
- Magnetic Separation: Magnetic separators are used to separate iron-rich minerals from waste rock.
- Gravity Separation: Gravity-based methods are sometimes used for denser ores.
- Flotation: In some cases, chemicals are used to selectively adhere to iron particles, making them float for separation.

4. Pelletizing or Sintering
- Pelletizing: Fine iron ore particles are mixed with binding agents and rolled into small balls (pellets), then heat-treated to harden them.
- Sintering: Iron ore fines are heated along with fluxes and coke breeze to form sinter, which is used in blast furnaces.

5. Smelting
- Processed iron ore is fed into a blast furnace, where it is combined with coke (carbon source) and limestone to produce molten iron. This molten iron, also called pig iron, can be further refined.

6. Refining
- Impurities are removed from pig iron to produce steel or other alloys, often in basic oxygen furnaces or electric arc furnaces.

Iron ore processing refers to the series of industrial processes used to extract and refine iron from its ore to produce raw iron, typically in the form of iron concentrate, pellets, or sintered materials. These are the initial steps in producing steel and other iron-based products.

The process involves several stages:
1. Mining
- Extraction: Iron ore is mined from deposits found in the Earth's crust.
- Transport: The extracted ore is transported to processing facilities.

2. Crushing and Grinding
- Crushing: Large pieces of ore are broken into smaller fragments to facilitate processing.
- Grinding: The crushed ore is ground to fine particles to separate the iron from other minerals.

3. Concentration
- Magnetic Separation: Magnetic separators are used to separate iron-rich minerals from waste rock.
- Gravity Separation: Gravity-based methods are sometimes used for denser ores.
- Flotation: In some cases, chemicals are used to selectively adhere to iron particles, making them float for separation.

4. Pelletizing or Sintering
- Pelletizing: Fine iron ore particles are mixed with binding agents and rolled into small balls (pellets), then heat-treated to harden them.
- Sintering: Iron ore fines are heated along with fluxes and coke breeze to form sinter, which is used in blast furnaces.

5. Smelting
- Processed iron ore is fed into a blast furnace, where it is combined with coke (carbon source) and limestone to produce molten iron. This molten iron, also called pig iron, can be further refined.

6. Refining
- Impurities are removed from pig iron to produce steel or other alloys, often in basic oxygen furnaces or electric arc furnaces.
