Methanol fuel ships can enter the shipping stage and show a rapid development momentum, which is not unrelated to the advantages of methanol as a ship power fuel. Methanol does not contain nitrogen oxides and sulfur, is colorless, flammable, easy to store, and is an ultra-low carbon chemical. Compared to conventional marine fuels, methanol reduces CO2 emissions by up to 25% (and even more with renewable methanol), reduces NOx emissions by up to 80%, and completely eliminates SOx and particulate emissions. Methanol can maintain a liquid state at normal atmospheric pressure and normal temperature. It does not require low-temperature equipment, and it is easy to store and transport safely. It has become the preferred alternative fuel for new shipbuilding of shipping companies, and methanol fuel-powered ships have become a new battlefield for the competition between China and South Korea's shipbuilding industry.

Methanol-powered ships fueled by methanol are suitable for the commercial shipping industry and can meet or exceed current and planned emissions regulations. Methanol is a safe, proven and cost-competitive marine fuel that is more environmentally friendly than conventional marine fuel.
